SOMA prides itself on being one of the best ways to get involved on campus. Each member can be involved in the planning and running of arts events as much as they like, which makes SOMA a very unique and inclusive organization.
Our primary focus is on providing Penn State students and other local artists a channel to display their work. We welcome all kinds of art; for example: music, visual arts, film, theater, comedy, poetry, spoken word, and dance. All of our events incorporate at least one of these types of art. We also strive to build and strengthen the artistic community at Penn State. Without art, we would lose an important means of communication, expression, and experience.
Founding Statement
“We created SOMA for all those at Penn State that wonder what fun, creative, and fresh things are going on at Penn State. For all those who have been playing in bands their whole lives and have been wondering where all the other bands are at Penn State. For all those art students that have been dying to share their artwork and who can’t because they can’t get a panel in the art show (are there even any art shows at Penn State?). For all those who have made their films and now just need an audience. For all those who want to help Penn State. This is your place.”
